Kinja'd!!!

According to almost every single one of my girl friends (friends that are girls), they all really like guys that wear cologne. I am currently single and wish to change that. So I was thinking about trying some out however I know absolutely nothing about it. Does anyone here know anything?

All I know is wear way less than you think you should.

Don’t wear too much, too much and you smell like you should be rocking Lacoste and gater skin shoes. Especially if it is the Ferrari one.

Don’t go for anything too strong and always buy cologne at the DutyFree. Not sure if cologne helps with anything, other than make you smell nicer for longer (I use it for myself, I like to smell nice). I’ve been using Terre D’Herme for the last few months.

Bring a girl (or two) to a cologne booth at Macy’s or another store, have them help you pick out a scent both you and them like.

That’s what i did, currently have Calvin Klein Euphoria and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. I only wear these on weekends when going out

Department stores have samples of women’s colognes, so I would imagine they have men’s cologne samples too. Colognes smell different on different people. Also, don’t overdo it when applying.

Go to Macy’s or higher end department store. Find a girl roughly your age and ask what she prefers. After she suggests a couple of things tell her you need a second opinion and point towards the cute girl at the makeup counter. If you can parlay this into a ménage à trois you win!

I buy stuff that comes in a spray bottle. Notice I said spray bottle not aerosol can. 2 squirts in the air right after you get out of the shower, walk through the cloud. That’s plenty.

BTW, I like this , and I have gotten quite a few complements about it.

EDIT: I shouldn’t have said right after the shower. In between drying off and getting dressed.

A decent fragrance that most people (men & women) will enjoy smelling. This will probably be a good starter scent for you. If you are worried about pricing, I suggest finding some at Ross. Go to a place like Sephora, try out the scents and see what you like, then but online or at a less expensive place.

I don’t want to burst your bubble, but cologne alone ain’t gonna make that big a difference...

However if you just want to smell slightly fancier there’s nothing wrong with that :) Try on some testers (or get a sample pack) to make sure you’re not allergic to any of the fragrances, pick whatever floats your boat since you’re the one who has to wear it all day, and definitely do not overuse.

This is all you need. It smells like a barber shop. In fact, my barber growing up put Clubman talc powder down the back of my neck after my hair cut.

My gf loves this shit. She kept asking me what she was smelling on me and once I told her, she started throwing a bottle of it in with every gift she got me. I have a lot of Clubman aftershave.

There was some article a while back that I can’t find, but it had a theory that women have an unconscious, positive reaction to Clubman and other barber shop scents. Their dads would go to the barber shop before special occasions, so they associate that smell with positive memories.

Also, the Amazon reviews for it are hilarious.

Smelling nice may increase his chances of not being single. It's a small, incremental increase in chance, but every little bit helps.

Here are some of my favorites, remember cologne scents can change with your body chemistry but here is a good list of ones I use regularly. Note: I never leave my house without 1 spray of cologne, 3 if I’m going partying.

1. YSL white (silver top) or black (black top, is more of a spicy winter scent)

2. Gucci Guilty

3. Chanel Bleu

4. D and G Light Blue

5. D and G The One

Try getting a good high quality after shave or after shave balm. It will be much more subtle and actually help your face. I use RazoRock King Louis after shave wax. Helps keep your skin in good shape after a shave and leaves a nice subtle lavender scent. Being subtle is the key. Truthfully, as long as you don’t smell bad you’re doing alright in olfactory department.

This and other “Bay Rum” fragrances are making a huge comeback.

I have never received a negative response to it.

#1 make sure you don’t get a scent that is similar to that of a girl’s ex or father or relative.. basically be unique. It makes it so you are associated differently

#2 different people “fit” different scents better. So try a few with a couple girls around and see which ones smell better ON YOU. It’s a chemical thing, almost like how different people can pull off different clothes or hair cuts.

#3 don’t over-use it

#4 find two scents: one for you day-to-day (if that’s what you’re talking about) and one for special occasions. AND I MEAN SPECIAL. That way, when you use it (I’m talking a few times a year) your significant other knows its a special night and it becomes a chemical trigger.

Now, back to cars...

this is the best stuff. anything with a crappy designer will be kinda crappy. look for deals at stores like ross and tjmaxx etc. you wont find this there though. try to find a unique scent and if it reminds you of AXE dont buy it. believe it or not but there are formal colognes and daily ones. generally the stronger is a more formal cologne. I could go on but I already slightly embarrassed I know this much.

It can certainly help, just don’t overdo it, and try a few smaller sample bottles before splurging, or knock-offs/generics (Kohl's, Ross, Cato, etc.). Different girls like different scents: my first girlfriend adored sandalwood, my second vanilla and slight woodsy smells, my third liked Tag Wild Card body spray (which sadly isn’t made anymore, smells great), and my wife likes the Mustang Black cologne, a few Tags and Axes body spray, my Mitchum deodorant, and my Gillette shaving gel - but mostly she likes me smelling clean.

I was using Clubman aftershave before Clubman aftershave became a cool thing to use. I am the hipster of Clubman aftershave.

The real reason is I shave my head and have sensitive skin. Lotion-y aftershaves left my head all greasy so I looked for alcohol-based aftershave, saw a bottle of Clubman at Walgreens, and remembered my childhood barber using the powder on my neck. Skin Bracer (another “old guy” aftershave) actually does a little better job calming my skin down since it has menthol in it. But Clubman...dat smelllll.

Don't be embarrassed it's good to know these things. Creed is excellent but it's not easy to find and I think would be out of the OPs league. Still an amazing brand with great scents.
